Yobe COVID-19: Prevention Committee meets with monarchs

Yobe State Committee on Prevention and Control of COVID-19, headed by the state deputy governor, Idi Barde Gubana has met with the 14 traditional Emirs in the state as part of continued efforts to extend measures of sensitization campaign on the pandemic to the grassroots.

 

During the meeting held at the Wawa Hall, Government House, Damaturu recently, the committee highlighted on the critical measures that need to be adopted to curtail the spread of the pandemic in the state.

 

Gubana maintained that the committee decided to meet with traditional rulers in view of their importance as one of the critical stakeholders who would assist in influencing the grassroots on the measures taken by the state government to fight coronavirus.

 

Earlier speaking, Emir of Fika and Chairman of the state Council of Chiefs, Dr. Mohammad Abali ibn Mohammad Idrissa, noted that traditional rulers are working closely with government to ensure that people are adequately informed on the situation so as to collectively fight the virus.

 

Also contributing, the Emir of Bade and deputy chairman of the state Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Suleiman said that traditional rulers have a role to play in addressing the issue of coronavirus just as the institution contributed immensely on the fight against polio through people sensitization campaigns.

 

On his part, the vice chairman of COVID -19 Committee on Prevention and Control and the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Mohammad Lawan Gana, revealed that the meeting was intended to intimate traditional institution on the dangerous effects of the disease and the role expected from them to prevent its spread in the state.

 

On preventive measures, he explained that the state government has done all what it is supposed to do in terms of provision of medical supply, while  some of the curative measures taken are: wearing of face masks is compulsory in public places, good respiratory etiquette, physical and social distancing is mandatory, frequent hand washing, usage of hand washing and sanitizer is mandatory, self health hygiene and quarantine any defaulter who comes from other states to Yobe or on transit for a period of two weeks.
