Kano State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr. Zahra Muhammad Umar has disclosed that Class 89 chapter of Women Arabic Teachers College, Goron Dutse Students Association (WATCOSA) has played a significant role in her achievement in life.
She disclosed this in an interview with newsmen shortly after the 30th anniversary of the association held at Tourist Camp in the state recently.
She noted that, the gathering refreshed her memories of the happy time she had in that prestigious school.
According to her, the class 89 set has contributed immensely in shaping the lives of former students particularly those that reached extreme height in their career.
The commissioner, who was also the Head Girl of that year, described girl-child education as the backbone of any nation building.
She that: “If you educate women, you educate the nation and if women are provided with a position in the authority, all the problems of our country will be solved.”
She then urged parents to ensure that their children go to school.
In his speech, the chairman of the event, Malam Labaran Yahaya
Galadanchi, expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for sparing his life to witness the programme.
He said that he was very happy to be one of the teachers who taught the Class 89 chapter.
Malam Galadanchi added that to educate a woman is just like educating the whole nation.
He called on stakeholders to support government programmes on education, especially free and compulsory initiative.
