Authorities in Bayero University, Kano, have debunked the claim that the Vice Chancellor of the institution was tested positive for the novel Coronavirus as purportedly being circulated.

A press statement signed by the Secretary, Information and Publication Division, Bayero University, Kano, Lamara Garba, said on Saturday.

The statement reads in parts: “Our attention has been drawn to the fabricated and fake news which alleged that the Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, Professor Muhammad Yahuza Bello, was tested positive of the Corona Virus disease.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Professor Yahuza Bello has never been suspected of the disease nor was he even tested, because, there is no need for that. He is hale and hearty, please.
The institution, however, called on the members of the public to ignore the purported news and consider it as fake, fabricated and of no basis whatsoever.
It added: “The Vice Chancellor Professor Muhammad Yahuza Bello is not a member of the Task force chaired by the Deputy Governor of the state as claimed by the malicious news.
“Such a claimed was fabricated by some elements who do not wish the University and the people of Kano well.”
