From Christiana Gokyo, Jos
The Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong recently established COVID-19 Endowment Fund for donations from well-meaning citizens for the fight against the virus in the state.
The Fund has received a donation of N28.5million from the United Bank for Africa (UBA), through its Foundation as part of their contribution to the fight against the disease, recently.
The presentation was made on behalf of the bank by Steve Gadzama, Regional Bank Head in Jos, saying the bank has remained a partner to the Government of the State and is happy with the measures taken so far to deal with the situation.
He said the bank has also constructed and donated an isolation facility and incubators at the Plateau State Specialist Hospital in Jos.
Responding Governor Lalong thanked UBA for setting the pace in contributing to the fund and assured that the amount will be managed transparently and the money applied to critical areas including responding to the needs of the poor and people in rural areas.
He urged other corporate organisations and well-meaning individuals to also donate to the fund known as “PLATEAU STATE COVID-19 SUPPORT FUND. ACCOUNT NUMBER: UBA 1022751747.”
He said the Government welcomes other donations of facilities, medical equipment and consumables toward building the capacity of the State to handle the situation.
