Tallen tasks women organisations on males’ interests
From Atiku Sarki, Abuja
The Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen has call on women organizations to ensure that men’s interest are taken care of in their programming.
The Minister gave the charge when the President and members of the Change Managers International Network and the National Coordinator 100-Women Lobby Groups paid her a courtesy visit in her office in Abuja.
Tallen said that women organisations have been talking in workshops and retreats for quite some time now.
“Now is time to walk-the-talk. We must match action with our talks,” she said.
“We cannot succeed in our action for women empowerment without the support of our male counterparts,” she noted.
The Minister said that when “our programmes have a component of male interests such a programme is likely to get positive support from men.
She said that women are not competing with their male counterparts, adding: “What we ask for is to be seen as partners in the quest for national development with men.”
Earlier the President, Mrs. Felicia Onibon had said her organisation sought to facilitate women’s full participation in politics.
She said that her organisation was blessed with a number of women professionals who are ever willing to serve the country.
Mrs. Onibon said that her organisation in collaboration with the University of Abuja had introduced a course of study in women development and a professorial chair.
She said that the programme has a Masters and Doctorate curriculum.
