Stop dumping illegal waste on streets -Shira
From Sule Aliyu, Bauchi
Worried by indiscriminate dumping of refuse outside the designated sites across the state, Bauchi State Government has declared that it will take stringent measures to tackle and stop illegal dumping of refuse on streets.
The declaration was made by the state Commissioner of Environment and Housing, Hon. Hamisu Muazu Shira, in an interactive session with newsmen in Bauchi, recently.
Shira explained that the measures became necessary due to increased illegal dumping of refuse on streets, tasking citizens of the state to use designated areas to dump their waste as against dumping them on streets.
The commissioner said: “We are appealing to the indigenes and residents of Bauchi State to as a matter of urgency desist from bringing their waste and dumping it on our streets; we can’t allow this to continue.”
He also enjoined community and religious leaders to consider as part of their corporate social responsibilities to assist the administration to achieve its set objectives of keeping the state clean and healthy for all.
