From Yahaya Wakili, Damaturu
APC chieftain and Permanent Member, Yobe State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji Tasi’u Gambo has called on the state governor-elect, Alhaji Mai Mala Buni to split Potiskum Local Government Area into three, due to size of its population in order to enable economic growth.
Alhaji Gambo, who spoke with our correspondent, recently said people of Potiskum Local Government Area played a vital role during the concluded general election in the country, adding that after collation of votes from the 17 local government areas, Potiskum alone has about 45,000 which is the highest in the state.
According to him, no any local government in the state has been bringing such a number of votes since the return of democracy in the state.
The Permanent Member further said: “If you look, it was out of Potiskum Local Government Area that Fika was born, so also is Nangere Local Government Area and Potiskum is still very large in terms of size and population, as such the need to further split it for effective growth to take place.”
Alhaji Gambo revealed that because of the numerous contributions of the people of the area, there is the need for the governor-elect to consider this call to enable not only the council but the state to have the deserving attention in terms of economic growth.
“We hope this new governor will assist our people and our people will continue to follow and support the government.
It is our hope that Alhaji Mai Mala Buni will look into the problems of entire people of Potiskum Local Government Area to reward them.” he said.
