Gombe State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a soldier with 301 Artillery Regiment which they said was arrested when he snatched a motorcycle from an Okada rider.
Parading the suspect yesterday in Gombe, the State Commissioner of Police Muhammad Garba Mukaddas while confirming the arrest to journalists, said the suspect boarded a commercial motorcycle along bye-pass Tabra village, Gombe during which he asked the commercial motorcyclist Abubakar Garba that he wanted to take a phone call, and pointed an AK-47 rifle with Breech No. 16470 and 24 rounds of live ammunition to Garba and snatched the motorcycle from him.
As he attempted to flee with the motorcycle, the victim had raised an alarm and was thereafter chased by the police patrol after receiving a distress call and subsequently arrested him.
According to the Police Commissioner who gave the name of the suspect to journalists as Private Ojobo Sunday said the suspect has confessed to the crime and will soon be charged to court for prosecution.
He said exhibits recovered from the suspect included one AK-47 rifle with 24 rounds of live ammunitions, one motorcycle Bajaj Boxer with registration No. DKU 054 V.
Among those paraded were a 24-year-old woman Mariya Yakubu of Bolari Quarters, Gombe through intelligence report that revealed that a baby suspected to be hers was abandoned at Manawashi Quarters on the 24th of November, 2018 and was discovered by a Good Samaritan who drew the attention of the police and the woman was arrested.
Speaking further, the Police Commissioner said the Command has achieved tremendously in the fight against crime in the state and promised to continue to combat crimes and criminalities, appealing to the public to continue to partner and cooperate with the Command by giving useful information to the police.
