As palliatives following sit-at-home period, Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has distributed food items to the door-steps of persons living with disabilities (PLWD) in Damaturu.

The support is part of Governor Maimala Buni’s administrative drive towards cushioning the sufferings of the PLWD as they abide by the sit-at-home advice of the COVID-19 pandemic preventive measures PLWD who engage in petty trading and begging in some cases, are usually first hit and worse hit during crisis.

In consideration of Damaturu, the state capital and one of the high risk COVID-19 LGAs as categorized by health experts, it is the first LGA to benefit from the door-to-door support to PLWD.

The distribution exercise was led by the Executive Secretary of SEMA, Dr. Muhammad Goje accompanied by officials in Damaturu where over 150 households were reached.

The benefiting locations include Nayi-nawa, Pompomari, Gwange, Fulatari, Ganye-Uku, Bindigari-Pawari, Tsohon Kasuwa, Sabon Pegi and Ajari wards of area.

Dr. Goje said this palliative support will minimise begging in gatherings to avoid social risk of the spread of the virus

In his remark, the leader of PLWD of Northeast All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Muhammad Abba Isa said that “disabled will always remain grateful to Governor Buni, and will continue to support all government policies and programmes being advocated by the administration in preventing the spread of COVID-19.”

He used the forum to pray for the success of Yobe state government and Nigeria. The Items distributed to the beneficiaries included rice, cooking oil, maize, tin tomato, salt and beans.
