Sanitation compliance: Getso hails Kano people

Kano State Commissioner of Environment, Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim Getso has commended the entire people of the state for their compliance with the government directives to remain at home to sanitise their surroundings.
He made the commendation at the end of the last Saturday monthly sanitation exercise, saying that the day was set aside by state government to enable every household carry out sanitation in his or her domain.
The commissioner described the exercise as successful in terms of compliance, saying the ministry has witnessed huge success during the conduct of the exercise, commending members of the state Sanitation Committee for the achievements.
He urged the people to continue with their support to the administration’s efforts towards environmental sanitation.
He warned vehicle owners particularly tricycle drivers to desist from violating government directives, saying that the government would deal with anyone sabotaging its initiatives,
He advised them to be law abiding and ensure compliance with the government directives to remain at home from 7:00am to 10:00am in every last Saturday of the month.
Dr. Getso said since his assumption into office four months ago as commissioner of the ministry, the last month’s exercise became the most successful one in the history of the ministry.
Places visited by the committee included YanKaba Vegetables and Fruits Markets as well as Gyadi-Gyadi Babban Layi to monitor compliance, guide and encourage the people towards continued participation.
The commissioner further commended executive members of the markets’ associations and entire marketers at YanKaba for complying with government directives to observe the sanitation exercise.
“Despite the market is big, nobody was found undertaking any business,” Dr. Getso appreciated.
He said the ministry would forward the development to the state governor for his recognition, adding that the ministry would also present a letter of commendation to the market associations for mobilizing their members to comply with the directives.
He also commended Gyadi-Gyadi Consultative Forum for organising a massive environmental sanitation exercise in the area, assuring of necessary assistance to the forum towards achieving their set objectives.
He described community efforts as great development particularly drainage clearance and waste ecacuation, commending the executives of the two associations for their commitment to environmental health, saying the ministry would convey appreciation letter to the forum.
