Kano State governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has approved the rehabilitation of Public Suggestion Department of the state Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission to enhance its efficiency in gathering of public opinions on government’s programmes and projects.
Contained in a statement from the Director of Special Assignment of the commission, Malam Usman Bello, the commission’s chairman, Barr. Muhuyi Magaji Rimin-Gado disclosed this when he visited the department’s office at Goron Dutse recently in the state capital.
It said the rehabilitation of the office was part of the governor’s desire to boost its efficiency in order to enhance people participation as well as build more public confidence in governance.
Barr. Rimin-Gado said, in order to provide more avenues for people to channel their views at this communication age, the commission has already developed a portal in addition to the boxes for people to send their suggestions on any issue for government attention which would be appropriately passed to the concerned ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) for action.
He further disclosed that the commission has also completed arrangement for the replacement of old and worn-out boxes across the state for people that have no access to internet to drop their suggestions.
It could be recalled that Governor Ganduje has transferred the management of the suggestion boxes, which was hitherto under Cabinet Office, to the commission as a department.
Barr Rimin-Gado therefore, called on the people of the state to utilize the avenues and send in their comments and suggestions through the portal and boxes, assuring them that measures were put in place to ensure all opinions reach the MDAs concerned with dispatch.
He further stated that the commission has commenced renovation of the office, adding that computer unit would be established with internet facilities for effective analysis and deployment of all suggestions to concerned authorities as well as monitoring of actions taken.
He said the commission would be preparing periodic report to the governor on the suggestions aggregated and actions taken by the MDAs.
