The chairman of the Nigeria Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe State, Alhaji Abdullahi Garba Alele has said that there are no developed countries in the world, which are not built with tax payers’ money, therefore such tax payers must accord a respect in the act of governance.

Alele stated this when the new Zonal Officer Board of Internal Revenue Potiskum, Alhaji Ishaku Audu paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

“Any developed country in the world, with the tax they build it, so if the staff of the revenue office bring you tax payment letter, collect it, next day meet him in his office and pay your tax and collect your receipt.

“We continue to enlighten our members on the importance of paying tax and the staff of the revenue are our brothers, they are not our enemies, as such, we assure the zonal officer that we will support tax paying, NARTO office and revenue office is one thing,” he stated.

The chairman maintained that the problem which happened between the association and the revenue office has been settled.

“We sat down together and understood each other. We promise to visit the new Zonal Officer in office to discuss vital issue relating to our relationship.

“What the government is expected, in NARTO is not like that, but it has become necessary for us to pay our tax to government, because we want our state to move forward.

“In Nigeria, they know Potiskum in the field of transportation, so it is not fair to say the revenue of Potiskum is low,” the chairman queried.

Earlier, the Zonal Officer, Alhaji Ishaku Audu said from the history he met on ground, the cooperation, especially from leaders, helps in the development and achievements of the board in Potiskum, adding that it was that synergy that informed his decision to pay NARTO the visit and express appreciation for the cooperation they extend to the former officer.

Also speaking, the state vice chairman of the association, Alhaji Bukar Adamu Bazuwa, urged the state government to enlighten the people on the need of paying tax to it, as well as to make arrangement that any transporter in the state should pay his tax to the government in the state.
