From Mu’awuya B. Idris, Katsina

He told visiting Major General Leo Irabor from Defence Headquarters that the state was witnessing daily series of attacks on communities by bandits with killing, kidnapping and stealing of cows.

Masari’s statement came after the State House of Assembly advocated for security summit to tackle activities of armed bandits in the state.

The Assembly at emergency session called on the government to review peace dialogue entered with repentant bandits, describing the dialogue as a failure.

Our correspondent reports that hundreds of people have left their homes in 11 local governments areas due to series of attack by suspected bandits.

The affected areas include, Faskari, Sabuwa, Dandume, Musawa, Dutsinma, Safana, Jibia, Batsari, Kurfi, Danmusa and Kankara.

Masari admitted that the peace dialogue with repentant bandits has failed as many communities are being attacked daily by un-repented bandits.

The governor cited example of recent attack and abduction of Director of Finance and Administration of Danmusa Local Government Area by suspected armed bandits in Sabuwa Local Government Area.

He further said the bandits, during the operation, killed five innocent people, while the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the area escaped with gun shots.

Masari was worried on the insecurity situation in the state despite presence of security agents whose mandate is to protect lives and property.

He called on officers and men of the Nigerian Army and other security agents to strengthen joint operation to deal with the situation.

Responding, Major Gen. Irabor said the team was in the state to condole government on reported killing by armed bandits and people who lost their lives due to coronavirus.

Irabor said the visit would provide opportunity for the team to review performance of the military and initiate new measures to deal with bandits.
