PDP celebrates as Bauchi Governor wins at tribunal
From Sule Aliyu, Bauchi
The Bauchi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has affirmed and validated the election of Sen. Bala Muhammad as the duly elected Governor of Bauchi State.
Delivering the judgement, Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Salihu Shuaibu on behalf of other members of the Tribunal held that Senator Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad who contested the last gubernatorial election under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), having scored the highest number of votes as declared by INEC was validly elected.
The Tribunal, therefore, dismissed the petition brought before it by the gubernatorial candidate of the APC, Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar who challenged the result of the gubernatorial election alleging electoral malpractice particularly over-voting in three LGAs of Bauchi, Bogoro and Tafawa-Balewa.
The Triumph recalls that former Governor Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar and the APC called 33 witnesses who testified at the Tribunal but the Tribunal dismissed all the evidence in reaching its judgement.
As a result, there was wild jubilation in the state capital as supporters of Governor Bala Muhammad and the PDP took over major streets within the Bauchi metropolis to celebrate the victory.
