The 50 indigent students in Kano State whose WAEC registration was sponsored by NYSC members serving with Nigeria Customs Service Kano and Jigawa States Area Command have been charged to reciprocate the gesture by passing their examinations with good grades.
The charge was given by the commissioner of Education, Malam Muhammad Sanusi Sa’id Kiru while receiving the complete payment receipt for the students to the tune of N697,500 at KERD.
The commissioner who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Hajiya Lauratu Ado Diso said that passing their WAEC examination with flying colours would be the best way of expressing their gratitude to the corps members that sponsored them.
She therefore commended the corps members for the sacrifice they have made in paying for the examination fees, hoping that others would emulate the kind gesture.
She further expressed happiness for seeing that 60 per cent of the beneficiaries are female students.
In his remark, the representative of the four corps members, Comrade Akin-ola Emmanuel said that the gesture was aimed at assisting the indigent students through their Community Development Services (CDS) project.
He added that the project was also targeted at supporting the free and compulsory education policy of the state, stressing that their emphasis is more on Girl-child educational support.
While thanking the management of the Nigeria Customs Service Kano/Jigawa area command for supporting their idea, they also appreciated the NYSC body for giving them the permit to execute the project.
Expressing appreciation, one of the benefitting students, Nafisa Isah Ibrahim, commended the corps members for sponsoring them to write the forthcoming WAEC examination, according to Aliyu Yusuf, the Chief Public Relations Officer of the ministry in a press release issued to The Triumph.
