The Kano State Commissioner for Health, Dr Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa, has dismissed the report, which claimed that a COVID-19 patient had escaped while being transported to an isolation centre in the state.
No COVID-19 patient escaped – Kano health ministry
By our correspondent
A press statement by the Information Officer, Hadiza M. Namadi, disclosed this on Friday
According to the commissioner, the report is misleading, as it was cooked to cause panic in the state as the lockdown came into effect.
Tsanyawa said: “Such story is totally untrue and misleading as it was arranged to cause panic and tension in the state.
“A professional reporter should, basically, understand that COVID-19 testing is not like Malaria or Typhoid fever test, where a patient takes himself to hospital and finds his way at will.”
He, however, urged members of the public to make enquiries on how COVID-19 suspected index cases are handled with all caution and sense of responsibility.
He added: “As a global pandemic, no state in the country, in collaboration with the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) is handling COVID-19 cases with laxity as claimed by those unprofessional media men working with that local radio station.”
