The recent attack on a first class Chief Osu Ajiri of  Udegye chiefdom, Alhaji Bala Usman by unknown gunmen has sent panic among communities around Keffi and Nasarawa Local Government Areas of Nasarawa state.

The gunmen launched the attack on the traditional ruler on his way back from an official engagement few kilometres to his domain.

Confirming the incident, the traditional ruler said he was so shocked with the attack, saying: “As a first class Chief, for some miscreants to have the courage to attack me and my convoy is very unfortunate.”

He observed that until proper measures are taken by the authorities to end this insanity, people will continue to lose their lives in the hands of these gunmen on daily basis.

Speaking to our correspondent at the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Lafia, the former deputy governor of the defunct Plateau State, Alhaji Usman accused armed bandits for his attack and other attacks carried out in the area.

“Let me appeal to the Military to join hands with the police in order to bring to an end this unwanted killing of innocent citizens of this country,” he noted.

He further explained that for this criminal act to stop, security agencies have a lot to do by intercepting as well as reducing the proliferation of both big and small arms in the country for a better society
