Kano State Government says it has targeted 3.2 million Under- Five children during the forthcoming Maternal and Child Health (MNCH) Week scheduled between August 19th and 23rd in over 1,200 healthcare facilities.

The Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Health, Alhaji Usman Bala disclosed this to journalists.

He said the Ministry has also anticipated to render free antenatal services to over 60,000 first visit pregnant women.

Alhaji Bala revealed that in addition to immunisation, health workers will conduct nutritional status screening, administer de-worming tablets and Vitamin A supplement to Under- Five children.

Other services scheduled during the week according to him, are distribution of long-lasting insecticide treated nets, birth registration and antenatal services including malaria prophylaxis for pregnant women.

He said the event will feature demonstration of key preventive household health best practices such as hand washing, personal hygiene, exclusive breast feeding, complementary feeding and correct and consistent use of long-lasting insecticide treated nets.

He noted that the State Government has procured N100million drugs and other supplements in addition to long-lasting insecticide treated nets worth N250million for the MNCH Week.

“It is my ardent hope that during this campaign, household heads will allow their wives to visit the more than 1,200 healthcare facilities across the 44 local governments of the state to access the designed healthcare services that are available free of charge for the benefit of our women and children who are the future of our state.

“The campaign is planned to hold across all primary and secondary healthcare facilities from 19th August to 23rd August, 2019 in the designated service points within the various communities,” Bala added
