Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano Sate has approved the immediate removal of the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi ll.
The embattled emir was in total disrespect to lawful instructions from the office of the state governor and other lawful authorities, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji said.
Alhaji further disclosed that the emir had persistently refused to attend official meetings and programmes organized by the state government.
Alhaji said: “It is on record and in so many instances Malam Muhammadu Sanusi ll has been found breaching Part 3 Section 13 (a-e) of the Kano State Emirates Law 2019 and which if left unchecked will destroy the good and established image of the Kano Emirate.”
The removal was made after due consultation with the relevant stakeholders and in compliance with Part 3 Section 13 of the Kano Emirates Law 2019, Alhaji added.
He, however, maintained that the removal was reached in order to safeguard the sanctity, culture, tradition, religion and prestige of the Kano Emirate built over a thousand years.
Governor Ganduje said a new emir for the Emirate will soon be appointed, calling on the general public to remain calm, be law abiding and go about their normal businesses.
