Kidnapping: SSG urges citizens to stop paying ransom

Secretary to Katsina State Government (SSG), Dr. Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa has appealed to people of the state to stop paying ransom to kidnappers.
Inuwa stated this while receiving rescued victims kidnapped along Kankara Road.
The victims were rescued by a combined security and repented bandits without payment of ransom.
He said paying ransom is encouraging bandits to carry out their illegal activities.
Inuwa said although families of kidnap victims are paying ransom to secure their release, but ransom is encouraging banditry.
He said the state government is working with security agents to end the problem of banditry in the state.
“We are working in collaboration with security and repentant bandits to end kidnapping in the state,” he explained.
Inuwa commended security and repentant bandits for rescuing the victims.
Our correspondent reports that about 19 people travelling outside the state onboard of commercial vehicles were kidnapped last week.
It was gathered that security agents and repentant bandits have so far rescued 16 people while the remaining three are still in captivity of the bandits.
