Katsina State Government, in collaboration with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have spent N151 million for eradication of poverty among women and youths.

The Permanent Secretary in charge of SDGs, Hajiya Fatimah Ahmed, in an interview with newsmen, said the beneficiaries were given cash assistance and trained in different skills.

Fatimah explained that the beneficiaries were selected from all the 34 local government areas of the state, adding that the money given to them was a grant not a loan.

“We selected beneficiaries through cooperative societies and gave them cash assistance to set-up business,” she said. Fatimah explained that apart from eradication of poverty, the SDGs, through the state government, had also expended huge sum of money in three key sectors that include water supply, agriculture and health.

According to her, under water supply, many communities and schools have benefitted from construction of boreholes to provide them with clean water.

She added that many health centers were constructed in addition to rehabilitation of existing ones and providing them with drugs and facilities.

Fatimah said all projects executed are handed over to communities for maintenance.

She attributed successes achieved under SDGs to regular payment of counterpart funding by the state government. She explained that the state had already paid N600 million counter part funding which is being utilised for execution of projects in the year 2020.
