The Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abulmumini Kabir Usman has advocated for special salary package for working journalists.
Alhaji Usman, who spoke while receiving leadership of the state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) at his palace, said salary package for journalists was necessary to take care of their needs and discourage them from receiving gratification.

Emir Kabir pointed out that journalists, like any other human beings, are faced with difficulties to manage their life and that of their families, adding that they need special treatment to address such problems.
“I spoke with the President on the need to introduce special salary package for working journalists. Time has come for government to look into the issue.
“Special salary package will encourage journalists to protect the interest of those that are cheated,” he stressed.
The Emir charged members of the pen pushing profession to fear Allah in the discharge of their duties and avoid being used to protect the interest of some individuals.
“Your job is very important. You should fear Allah and work according to the ethics of your profession,” he urged the journalists.
He commended them for enlightening and educating people on the happenings in the state, pledging to involve them in the committees set up by the Emirate.
Earlier, the state chairman of the union, Comrade Buhari Mamman Daura, said the visit was to seek fatherly advice from the Emir in order to move the council forward.
Daura commended the Emir for his stance towards fighting against the activities of bandits with a view to minimizing the problem in the state.
