Kano is media friendly, safe, says Commissioner


Kano State Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba says the State Government remains committed to ensuring conducive environment for media organisations to flourish, just as it guarantees safety of working journalists. 

The Commissioner stated this while receiving the management staff of Radio Freedom who paid him a congratulatory visit in his office.

He said the present administration gives priority to security and freedom of expression of journalists which is the reason why no single journalist has ever been arrested on the orders of the State Government because of any unfavourable report on government policies or programmes.


This was signed and issued by Sani Abba Yola, the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, revealing that Garba explained that the State Executive Council members have approved a proposed quarterly meeting between the State Ministry of Information and media organisations to discuss important issues with a view to understanding any new policy introduced by the State Government.


Earlier, the Managing Director of Freedom Radio, Yandakan Kano, Alhaji Abbas Dalhatu had said they were in his office to congratulate him on his reappointment as Commissioner of Information


The Managing Director advocated for a quarterly meeting between media organisations and the Ministry of Information to serve as an avenue to brief the media on the rationales behind any policy or programmes initiated by government so as enlighten the public about the new policy.

He assured the Commissioner of their readiness to work with the State Government for the development of the State.


Meanwhile, Kano State Ministry of Religious Affairs has enjoined Sharia Commission to monitor and inculcate moral virtues for peace, unity and progress among adherents of different religions in the State.

The Commissioner, Kano State Ministry of Religious Affairs, Dr. Muhammad TaharAdamu made the statement when he received the Acting Director-General, Kano State Sharia Commission, Malam Bashir Ibrahim who paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

The Commissioner expressed determination to work closely with the Commission and other relevant agencies under the ministry in addressing activities against the teaching of Islam, stressing the need for the Commission to put in their best towards addressing prostitution and other social vices in the State.

He also expressed satisfaction with the visit and reaffirmed his determination to support the Commission with necessary logistics for improved working condition, stressing that plans are underway to embark on the general renovation of structures in the Commission.

Adamu further commended Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for the creation of the Ministry towards improving the living standards of the entire people in the State irrespective of ethnic or religious differences.

In his remark, the Acting Commission Director-General, Malam Ibrahim Bashir said the visit was to congratulate the Commissioner on his appointment and pray for the Ministry to succeed on its mandate.

He also thanked the Commissioner for his determination to boost the activities of the Commission for the overall development of the State, says the spokesman of the Ministry, Usman DattiAbdullahi.
