A renowned businessman based in Kano, Alhaji Hamisu Rabi`u Jingau has pleaded with the government to re-open the nation borders, albeit temporarily closed with a view to importing essential commodities and food items in the country.
According to him, although the Federal Government, under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, is doing its best to eradicate poverty and scarcity of food item among the people in the country, still more concrete measures should be taken towards providing food to the doorstep of the citizenry.
Alhaji Jingau, who disclosed this during an interview with newsmen in Kano recently, noted that it is only by relaxing the border closure and allowing the importation of food items and essential commodity that the nation’s citizens would find succor of the current food crises.
He said the situation has left many people questioning the wisdom behind shutting the border against food items import whereas the country has not been able to produce enough for local demand.
He explained that the gaps between production and consumption of food items are normally filled with import, adding that no nation could achieve anything near its full potential without providing food to the masses.
