Jigawa shuts 6 more LGAs
Jigawa State governor, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar has announced a total lockdown of Gumel, Birnin Kudu and Gujungu town in Taura Local Government Areas following the discovery of two persons with coronavirus effective from 12 midnight of yesterday.
Governor Badaru announced the closure while briefing newsmen on the situation of the disease in the state in his office.
He said one person was found positive in Gumel who is an indigene of Birnin Kudu Local Government Area but was working in Gumel city, while the other one was found with scourge at Gujungu town of Taura Local Government Area, as part of determination of his government to curtail the spread of the disease in the state.
‘’There is what medical practitioners call primary and secondary contacts where the first victim interacts with others while the secondary contact can interact with other people, so the disease could be transmitted to others, that is what we want to avoid,’’ Badaru stated.
He noted:”This was the similar reason Kazaure city was lockdown for two weeks because one person was discovered with the disease,” saying that out of the 17 put under investigation, one was tested negative and the remaining 16 were under investigation.
In a related development the chairman of the state Task Force on Coronavirus pandemic, who is the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abba Zakari Umar, confirmed that one person had died among the victims of the of Covid-19.
Dr. Umar added that Dutse, Miga and Kiyawa Local Government Areas would be lockeddown from 12 midnight today.
