Jigawa bye-election: ‘INEC achieves 85% preparation level’

Jigawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Alhaji Mahmoud Isah has said that the Commission has achieved over 85 per cent of preparation for the conduct of the tomorrow’s bye-election for Babura/Garki Federal Constituency following the demise of member House of Representatives, Hon. Muhammad Adamu Fagen Gawo.


Isah stated this while displaying the sensitive and non-sensitive materials collected from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) before the representatives of the political parties who will participate in the election in his office yesterday.


He said they have completed the training of permanent and ad-hoc staff, revealing that the Commission has recruited1, 680 ad-hoc staff and already concluded all arrangements with security agencies in order to ensure a hitch-free, reliable and acceptable election.


He disclosed that only three political parties namely, All Progressives

Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and ADP will participate in the election.


Isah stated that a total of 177, 780 voters were registered in both

Babura and Garki Local Government Areas and were expected to cast their votes during the poll in the 302 polling units of the Constituency.


Our correspondent reports that all sensitive and non-sensitive materials were collected and displayed before the political parties’ representatives, NGOs, security personnel and media representatives and the materials were distributed to the electoral officers of Babura and Garki for onward distribution to polling centres by today’s afternoon.
