Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners Zamfara State, Comrade Hassan Muhammad has raised an alarm shocking as it looks that about 60 pensioners have so far died from January to date with 40 of them dying awaiting their gratuity.
In Zamfara: ‘60 pensioners died January to date’
From Bala Abubakar, Gusau
Speaking with newsmen, Comrade Muhammad knelt down begging Governor Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar to pay their outstanding entitlements.
He said pensioners are dying of hunger, some becoming paralysed while others are now in hospital beds as a result of non-payment of retirees’ outstanding gratuities.
“It was gathered that as a result of the no-payment of gratuities many pensioners are presently paralysed,” he added.
He appreciated the patience and endurance of members (pensioners) despite the current economic hardship being faced by Nigerians generally, and called on the State Governor, Abdul’aziz Yari Abubakar to come to their rescue.
He also appealed to the state government to consider the review of the pensioners’ benefit in accordance with the provision of Section 173 (3) 210 (3) of the 1999 Constitution as amended.
