Nasarawa State Governor, Alhaji Umar Tanko Al-Makura has directed and approved the immediate construction of a new state-of-the-art indoor sports hall within the Lafia city stadium to re-beautify, rebrand, enhance and upgrade the status of the stadium.

Governor Al-Makura was speaking during an inspection tour of the stadium recently to assess its position and the long-overdue laying of athletic tartan tracks as well as general maintenance of the sport facilities there.

Accompanied by some members of the state Executive Council, including the Deputy Governor, Silas Ali Agara and management of the state Ministry of Youth and Sports Development headed by Malam Jibrin Salihu, the Governor stated thus:

“We are going to construct a modern Indoor Sports Hall for all indoor games and other facilities that will upgrade the status of the stadium.

“When I came on board, sports was one of my administration’s topmost priorities.

“My plan was to have a state-of-the-art stadium by the time I am leaving as a parting gift to sports enthusiasts in the state,” Al-Makura stated.

On the long-awaited laying of tracks round the playing turf, the governor further stressed:

“We are on our way to achieving that. However, we met some hiccups while laying the tartan tracks initially, which was as a result of some structural problems we encountered on the site.

“But with our meeting today with the consultant and contractors, we seem to have found a way forward in completing the stadium works in the next 45 days.

“We have sorted out all the grey areas, and I want to assure all sports enthusiasts in the state that our stadium will soon be ready for any kind of events in the next two months, by the time the tartans are replaced.”

Reacting, Mr. Michael Adamu, CEO of Reform Sports, West Africa, the contractors handling the project, said his organization would deliver the works at the stipulated time, pleading with the state government to hasten up in doing the needful.
