Wife of Katsina State Governor, Hajiya Hadiza Aminu Bello Masari has pledged to fully support the ‘Better Life for Girls’ initiative of Save the Children.
The governor’s wife made the pledge while the ‘Better Life for Girls’ initiative tagged: ‘Reaching and Empowering Adolescents’ for them to make informed choices for their health was launched in the state.
Hajiya Masari commended the ‘Save the Children’ for choosing two local government areas of Sandamu and Rimi as beneficiaries of the programme, assuring that the government would support the initiative to cover all the 34 local government areas of the state.
She called on all stakeholders involved in the programme to show commitment to its success, advising technical persons involved in the programme to pay attention to its implementation as government may continue with the programme after its life span.
The governor’s wife assured that her pet project of fighting drug abuse among girls and women would partner ‘Save the Children’ in tackling the menace in the state.
In a goodwill message, the head of Development Cooperation, Global Affairs Canada, Dr. Modupe Taiwo said the programme has a total budget of N3 billion for the period of three years.
Dr. Taiwo said the period covered from 2018 to 2021 and will focus on access to sexual reproductive health and the rights of over 100, 000 married and unmarried adolescence girls and boys.
He commended the partnership between the state government and ‘Save the Children’ in improving the lives of children and women in the state.
