By Hamisu Abacha Zakarai
Kano State governor, Dr, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has been called upon to come to an aid of the Gabasawa Local Government Rice Farmers Association (RIFAN).
The call was made by the Chairman of the association, Alhaji Garba Malam while conducting The Triumph round to the flooded area in Zakirai Wala/Kaura in the area.
He said more than 150 farmers had lost their rice and other grains as a result of the flood.
Alhaji Malam also advised government on the need to revise the insurance policy which usually assists farmers, when such kind of flood happens, saying the farmers were not enjoying the insurance policy.
He also suggested that a dam should be constructed in the area in order to help to address further recurrence of the disaster.
He also advised farmers not to be discouraged because of the flood, urging them to be more prepared for the dry farming.
He then commended them to their tireless efforts, urging them to continue to provide more food to the state and the country in particular, pointing out that over 200 farmers have currently registered for the dry season farming programme in the area.
Already fertilizer and farming equipment were made available to the farmers where he urged them to make good use of the instruments on their farms.
