Fika Emir confers chieftaincy title on NNPC’s icon

The Emir of Fika and Chairman Yobe State Council of Chiefs, Alhaji (Dr.) Muhammad Ibn Abali Muhammad Idrissa, has conferred the traditional title of Matawalle of the Emirate on Engr. Yusuf Usman, chairman of the Board of Directors of NNPC Retail Limited and Group Chief Operating Officer Gas and Power.
The new Matawalle of Fika, Engr. Usman was born and brought up in Potiskum town of Yobe State.
He began his early education at Damboa Primary School, Potiskum.
Upon completion, he proceeded to Government Secondary Munguno, Borno State; Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he studied Chemical Engineering and had his NYSC at the Shell Petroleum Development Company in Lagos.
After finishing his service, he got employment with the Nigerian National Petroleum Cooperation (NNPC) who served in various offices and departments of the company throughout the country.
He subsequently rose to the position of General Manager (GM) and was later named as Group General Manager (GGM) and Senior Technical Assistant (GGM/STA) to the immediate past Group Managing Director (GMD), Engr. Maikanti Baru, few months to his retirement,
Engr. Usman was named the Managing Director (MD) of Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), Benin City.
Still due to his hard work within the gas and oil sector, even before his assumption of duty at NPDC Benin as MD, President Muhammad Buhari approved his appointment as Chief Operating Officer (COO) Gas and Power NNPC and subsequently, the new GMD Malam Mele Kyari, satisfied with his dedication and commitment, made him the chairman, Board of Directors of NNPC Retail Limited.
Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar, Special Assistant Media to the Emir of Fika in a statement made available to newsmen in Damaturu on Tuesday described the new Matawalle of Fika as hardworking, experienced, trustworthy and God-fearing, who has distinguished himself in every aspect of human endeavor.
He urged the new Matawalle of Fika to see his conferment as a call to continue with his selfless service to his domain, Yobe State and Nigeria.
He also prayed for Allah’s guidance for the new Matawalle.
“It is our hope and prayer that you will be good ambassador of the Emirate,” he said.
