FG hailed for banning mining in Zamfara
From Bala Abubakar, Gusau
Zamfara State Government has commended the Federal Government for banning mining activities so as to help in tackling insecurity in the state.
Governor Abdul’aziz Yari of the state disclosed this recently in Talata-Mafara after a meeting with security chiefs in the state.
Yari said that the state government welcomed the policy by the Federal Government, describing it as a welcome development for the people of the state.
The governor noted that Zamfara as host of these miners has not been benefiting from them, adding that mining activities must be suspected because most of them were doing activities close to bandits’ camps and nothing was affecting them.
According to him, miners must be suspected because of these reasons.
“We welcome this decision and we are going to support it,” he stated.
Yari urged communities in the state to cooperate with security agencies.
He commended the Federal Government for deploying security agencies to the state, adding: “We hope it will end banditry in this state.”
He said: “We have started seeing positive results due to measures put in place and we hope these will be sustained.”
The meeting was attended by the security chiefs in the state.
