From MuawuyaBalaIdris, Katsina
The Federal Government has disbursed farming equipment and seeds worth over N8billion to rice farmers in Katsina State.
The State Chairman of Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria, ShuaibuWakili told newsmen that the provision of farming equipment is to assist farmers for massive production of rice.
Wakili said the disbursement under Anchor Borrowers Programme assisted over 328,000 rice farmers in the state.
He said farming equipment such as water pumping machines, tractors, fertilizers among others were provided to farmers on subsidized loan, adding that already the beneficiaries have commenced repayment.
“The assistance benefitted our members in 361 wards across 34 local government areas,” he said.
According to him, the disbursement of the farming equipment has boosted economic status of rice farmers and massive rice farming.
“Anchor Borrowers Programme has generated more income for our members and provide job opportunities to many youth especially in our rural areas,” Wakili added.
He explained that under the programme, Katsina has produced enough rice at subsidized price to feed the whole nation.
Wakili commended President MuhammaduBuhari for introducing Anchor Borrowers Programme to boost farming activities.
He called on Nigerians to always patronize locally produced rice instead of rice imported into the country.
