Educate own wards on peace, Plateau parents urged
From Christiana Gokyo, Jos
Parents, particularly mothers, have been called upon to educate their children on the need for peace and tranquility after the last Saturday’s re-run election in the state.
The Chairperson of the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Mrs. Jennifer Yerima in collaboration with a nongovernmental organization called Search for Common Ground (SFCG) made the call recently at a press conference at the NUJ Press Center in Jos organised to stress the need for the peace to reign supreme in the state, especially now the re-run election has been conducted.
She also called on youths in the state not to succumb to entreaties by political actors who would want to use them to foment trouble after the re-run election in the state.
Mrs Yerima further urged them to be aware of the fact that there is nothing to gain in violence, more so since no politician will provide arms and ammunition for his or her children to engage in political thug actions.
The chairman assured that they would follow the ethics of their profession in doing the right things.
According to her, NAWOJ and SFCG appeal to all and sundry not to use their social media platforms to spread fake and unfounded stories, rumours or hate speeches.
They also called on community and religious leaders to admonish their followers and subjects not to pull down the path of peace in the state.
