Dala Hard Court – KNSG to give more support

Kano State Government will continue to play vital role in sustaining the annual Dala Hard Court Tennis Championship.

The State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje made this known at the closing of the 33th Edition of the Tennis Championship held at Kano Club, saying that the State Government is fully committed to sports development in the State particularly the grassroots sports.

He further said the Government has given more attention to grassroots sports to discover young talented athletes assuring government’s continued support to organizers towards contributing to sports development in the State.

Speaking, the Chairman Organizing Committee, Alhaji Bashir Gumel thanked the State Government for its support and cooperation to the successful hosting of this year’s tournament, saying that Dala Hard Court Tennis Championship has come to stay being the only National Tennis Championship in the Northern part of Nigeria.

He therefore urged the Nigeria Tennis Federation to continue supporting the championship and thanked all the players for their participation especially the winners in this year’s tournament and urged them to keep it up.

The Chairman however, said he was impressed with performance of the players, saying the standard of the game has improved greatly and thanked the sponsors more especially Aliko Dangote and co.

In his speech, the President, Nigeria Tennis Federation, Engr. Ifedayo Akindoju reiterated the support and cooperation of the Federation to Dala Hard Court in its contribution to the development of tennis in the country.

He commended the organisers of the tournament and the sponsors for achieving a huge success and congratulated the winners of this year’s tournament.

Imeh Joseph defended his title by defeating Emmanuel Sylvester in the Men’s Single with 6 – 4, 6 – 3 at the final encounter to clinch N1million cash while the runner up received the sum of N600, 000.

Also at female single championship, unseeded player Quadre Oyinlomo beat the seeded player, Aiyegbusi Aanu 6 – 2, 6 – 0 in the 55 minutes encounter to emerge the winner of the Championship.

The winner took the sum of N600, 000 while the runner up got N300, 000 cash prizes respectively
