Sumaila Local Government Area of Kano State has awarded contract worth over N43 million for the construction of culverts and drainages in some villages in the area.

The chairman of the local council, Alhaji Ibrahim Hamisu Rimi stated this while inspecting the sites of the projects.

Contained in a statement from the Information Officer of the area, Malam Umar Sule Wudil, which he made available to The Triumph, Alhaji Rimi gave the names of the benefiting villages to include Jesi, Gala, Kula, Dande and Gediya among others.

He said that the move was aimed at tackling the menace of flooding during rainy seasons in the area.

Rimi expressed satisfaction with quality of the projects, urging the contractor to strictly adhere to the contractual agreement.

The chairman enjoined people in the area to reciprocate the gesture by guarding the projects against vandalisation for their own benefit.

He commended Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of the state and the state Commissioner for Local Government, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo for giving the council the mandate to serve its people.

In another development, staff of Social and Community Development Department of the council, have been urged to redouble efforts towards reporting to office on time.

The head of the department, Alhaji Daha Muhammad Kabawa made the plea during a meeting with the staff in his office recently.

Alhaji Kabawa said the call became necessary in order to comply with the directives of the Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry for Local Government, Alhaji Saleh Ado Minjibir during a seminar held in Katsina, the capital of Katsina State and attended by all heads of departments.

He said part of the directives was submission of reports by all heads of departments to the ministry on quarterly basis, drawing attention of the staff that henceforth, the meeting would be holding on quarterly basis, reminding them to adhere to report to office on time.

The meeting resolved to organize an in-house seminar to be attended by the staff of the department, especially the junior ones, in order to enhance effective service delivery.
