In what seems to be a swift response to the recent emergence of Sokoto coronavirus index person,  the  state Taskforce Committee on Covid-19 has commenced the tracing of all the first index person contacts using an “Active  Case Search” method.

The state Commissioner of Health, Dr. Muhammad Aliyu Inname, who is also the chairman of the committee, stated this while updating newsmen on the COVID-19 situation held at the NUJ Press Centre Secretariat in the state.

Inname assured that: “We are  not  going to wait until  people  call our members and  complain about symptoms or suspected cases, instead we are  going  back to various health facilities and see the patients that were  registered  in the last three weeks with signs and symptoms of severe respiratory infections or with acute respiratory complains.

“This is another response strategy initiated by the state government to fight and detect the COVID-19 patients so as to halt further spread of the pandemic across the state,” he added.

It could be recall that a medical doctor working with Usman Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH), tested positive now receiving medical treatment at the Infectious Disease Control Hospital, Amanawa Isolation Centre, Sokoto.

He said the case index person is presently undergoing a medical treatment at the hospital, where he is responding to treatments and his condition is getting stable and recovering.

Inname explained that the first coronavirus patient has been transfered from UDUTH to Amanawa Isolation Centre for further medical treatment.

The chairman said the committee has commenced conducting what he described as active case research on who ever had contact with the index person in the last two weeks should be enlisted for the assessment.

According to him, the research will be conducted in stages, in the first stage his immediate family will be tested and later it will move further away by way of proximity.

Dr. Inname stated that people who have violated the orders of interstates recession and intercepted would be quarantined at the State National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp located at Wamakko town, the headquarters of Wamakko Local Government Area of the state.
