Charging for HIV screening: KSACA to sanction facilities

Kano State Government has vowed to sanction any health care facility that is found to be charging pregnant women for HIV screening.

The Director General of the State Agency for the Control of AIDS (KSACA), Dr. Sabitu Y. Shu’aibu Shanono made this known when he led the management of the agency for an unexpected visit to Sabo Bakin Zuwo Maternity Hospital and Tsanyawa Comprehensive Health Center.

Dr. Shanono said Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has approved the procurement of the needed testing kits and consumables for free HIV services in the state.

He urged operators of health care facilities to ensure efficient utilisation of resources, urging staff to be reporting to work on time and closing at the stipulated time especially in the rural areas.

The Director General tasked the health record officers to improve on data collection and documentation as no test kits would be provided to the health care facility without  complete and timely reporting of the relevance document, says Aminu Bello Sani, the Public Relations Officer of the agency.
