Worried over insecurity in the country particularly, North Central states, stakeholders from the zone stormed Lafia, Nasarawa State to brainstorm on way forward. Speaking at the summit, Governor Abdullahi Sule described it as timely.

He said: “I must say that this summit will no doubt, provide us with an ample opportunity in the North-Central region to share experiences, appraise and recommend appropriate measures on the security situation for the continued sustenance of peaceful coexistence among the diverse ethnic nationalities, not only in the region, but in the country at large.

“Let me express our profound appreciation for the opportunity availed us to host this auspicious gathering. “Let me also commend the Nigeria Police Force for conceiving the idea of this summit, which is being conducted around the six (6) geo-political zones of the country.”

Sule appreciated the effort of the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, who is the son of the soil and the initiator of the regional summit.

“The theme of this summit is: ‘Strategic Partnership for Effective Community Policing in the North-Central Zone/Federal Capital Territory (FCT).’ This theme is in line with the commitment of President Buhari’s administration to address the security challenges in the country,” Sule said.

He acknowledged that the country is contending with a lot of security challenges, ranging from bomb explosions, armed robbery, human trafficking, kidnapping and abduction, murder and activities of Boko Haram sect.

“Communal clashes and conflicts between farmers and herdsmen, among others, and indeed, crimes and criminality, have led to the proliferation of small arms and light weapons which are freely used by unpatriotic elements to achieve heinous and selfish aims.

“This situation caused psychological trauma and disrupted economic activities of our people at the time. “The prompt response of the Federal Government, which deployed security personnel, greatly enhanced the restoration of normalcy and maintenance of law and order.

“The visit by His Excellency, the Vice President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, the IGP, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Air Staff further consolidated the efforts of our security agencies and the Nasarawa State Government in bringing the situation under control,” he noted.
