Bauchi police nab runaway girlfriend killer

It was a case of love turning sour when a boyfriend simply called Solomon, a student of Federal Polytechnic Bauchi allegedly stabbed his live-in-lover, late Patience Zakariya to death over a minor disagreement between them and ran away.
The deceased, who was a National Diploma graduate of the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, was allegedly stabbed to death by Solomon, whose friends described as boyfriend of Zakariya.
A source, who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said the incident happened after an outing at a popular club around the area at midnight last Friday.
He said: “I stay in the same compound with Ms. Patience Zakariya although I was not at home when the incident happened; I only came back the following day to hear about it.
“What I was told was that she went to a club in Gwallameji with her boyfriend and some of her friends, but while they were there, I was told that they had an argument and came back home. The boyfriend does not stay here, but comes here very often.
“I learnt that while they were arguing, she broke a bottle on his head, maybe in self-defence, but Solomon took a knife and stabbed her and ran away. So, her friends rushed her to the hospital in Yelwa, where she was treated and brought back home,” he explained.
The source described the deceased, who he said had lived in the house since 2018, as a peace lover and easy-going person, who got along fine with almost everyone.
According to him, until the incident that led to her death, none of them knew her to be violent.
When contacted, an official of the Federal Polytechnic who did not want his name mentioned, told our correspondent that though the incident happened off-campus, the management will ensure that justice is done, calling on the students to know who they relate with.
While confirming the incident, Bauchi State Police Command through its PPRO, DSP Kamal Datti Abubakar said that the case was reported to the Yelwa Division from where the suspect was arrested and taken to Homicide Department at the Command’s Headquarters for further investigation after which he will be charged to court for prosecution.
