Bauchi approves N28.7m for waste management

To facilitate the evacuation of household wastes dumped along major roads within Bauchi and environs, Governor BalaAbdulkadir Muhammad of Bauchi State has approved the release of N28.7million for the construction of six waste collection centres within the metropolis.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony of the waste collection centres (Phase I) at Bakin Kura Bauchi, the Governor who was represented by the Commissioner of Environment and Housing, Hamisu Mu’azu Shira, said to further demonstrate commitment, the project was designed and built to stand the test of time, with an expected utilisation period of 20 years.
He maintained that the collection centres regulate the orderliness and proper manner of solid waste disposal and its subsequent evacuation to the approved landfill sites at the outskirts of the city and its conversion from waste to wealth.
Emir of Bauchi, Dr. Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu who was represented by the Ciroman Bauchi, Alhaji Nuru Adamu Jumba called on the people to maintain and support the strides and make sure that there is strict compliance in dumping refuse henceforth.
