Army equipped to end banditry activities in Zamfara, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai has said that effort has been made to provide all necessary support with requisite equipments and manpower to bring an end to the banditry activities in Zamfara State.

He stated this during an official commissioning of Headquarters 1

Brigade office complex in Gusau, saying that the Nigerian Army would not relent until all forms of insurgency in the country are totally eliminated.

 

The Chief of Army Staff, who was represented by the Commander Infantry

Corps, Nigerian Army, Maj Gen Hakeem O. Otiki, said the army remains resolute in defending the territorial integrity of the country.

 

“I have no doubt that with establishment of 1 Brigade Gusau troops will remain committed to the security of lives and property of the good people of Zamfara State more so as we approach the 2019 general elections,” he said.

Buratai maintained that the welfare of troops shall continue to remain paramount to enhance the utmost performance, stressing that the troops therefore remain completely apolitical while supporting and protecting the democratic process.

 

While expressing appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari for his unflinching support to the Nigerian Army, he also thanked Zamfara State

governor for providing the complex to the Nigerian Army.

 

In his remarks, the General Officer Commanding 8 Division, Maj Gen S. O.

Olabanji, while expressing satisfaction over the establishment of the 1

Brigade, maintained that the relocation of Brigade to Gusau has come at the right time, especially with current security challenges in the state.

 

Olabanji stated that: “It is hoped that the Brigade would leverage on its expertise, additional manpower and equipment to add value to the ongoing Operation Sharan Daji with a view to decisively bringing to an end of all forms of banditry activities in Zamfara State.”

 

According to him, the Force has been privileged to meet with various stakeholders in the state with a view to forging the way forward while also collaborating with other security agencies to bring to an end all forms of criminality in the state.
