A Federal High Court sitting in Jos has remanded a former Provost of Federal School of Medical Laboratory Jos, Etukudo Sunday, in Jos Prison over an alleged money laundry and misappropriation of N1.2 billion.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), recently arraigned Doctor Sunday and Henry Oyobo, a desk officer in budget department of the school, on a six-count charge of conspiracy, money laundry, and misappropriation of public funds amongst others on 29/2/2011.

According to the charges read by the court registrar, it was alleged that “on 29/2 /2011, the sum of N1.38 million was transferred from the school budget account into Zenith Bank private account by Mr. Henry Oyobo, and N943 million into another private account at United Bank for Africa, in connivance with the provost, which is punishable under section 1 sub section 1a, under the 2006 criminal act.”

While responding after reading the charges, counsel to the first accused, Martin Atojoko, told the court that he was surprised that the EFCC was denying his client bail in the court while he enjoyed administrative bail by same EFCC, begging the court to grant his client a bail.

“We have filed a process seeking bail but we are surprised that the same EFCC was denying the accused bail in the court,” he said.

However, the prosecution counsel, Tarfa Yahaya in his response, asked the court to remand the accused persons based on the level of allegations against them.

The presiding judge, Docas Agishe, remanded the accused persons in Jos prison and adjourned the matter for ruling on the bail application and continuation of hearing till November 20, 2018.
