The immediate past governor of Nasarawa State, Alhaji Umaru Tanko Al-makura, and now Senator representing Southern Senatorial District of the state, has donated 3,000 bags of 25kg rice to his constituents.

Most beneficiaries of the gesture are vulnerable and it was part of efforts to cushion the effect of coronavirus on them.

Distributing the items to them, Senator Al-makura, described the gesture as palliative to people who are the most challenged in the society to alleviate their suffering as a result of COVID-19 pandemic.

“Now that Ramadan is around the corner, many of our people are living, I don’t want to call them vulnerable, but they are those facing challenges.

“Our country and other nations are bedeviled with unusual pandemic called coronavirus otherwise known as Covid-19. Virtual all countries of the world are in stage of confusion where a lot of measure is put in place to curb the spread of this pandemic,” Al-makura stated.

He noted that some categories of people are now struggling to get what and where to get it in order to survive with their families.

“As you can see, the Federal Government and some states have started making efforts to reach out to ordinary people who will be supported by relief materials to cushion the effect of this problem,” he noted.

He said that the palliative would reach every ward and polling unit in his constituency to have some support to reduce the hardship before them.

The Triumph reports that there are 43 wards in the constituency, comprising Awe, Doma, Keana, Obi and Lafia.
