2019: Yobe where there is no opposition, this is because no any opposition party in the state has ever come close to government seat of power since the return of democracy in Nigeria.
From Yahaya Wakili, Damaturu
Yobe is one of the states in Northern Nigeria that the All Progressives Congress (APC)-from APP to ANPP and down to present set up- has been governing since the restoration of democracy in 1999.
This is because no any opposition party in the state has ever come close to government seat of power since the return of democracy in Nigeria.
The Triumph gathered that in less than 65 days to the elections in the country, there is no any political campaign currently going on in the state due to the large number of APC followership. Nobody is talking about the opposition party in the state.
For the governor’s seat, APC is also relaxed because there was no any strong challenge to them from the opposition PDP.
However, like in 2015 general election when the All Progressives Congress (APC) lost Senate, Reps and State House of Assembly seats to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Yobe South Senatorial District, Zone B as a result of imposition of candidates on them, a repeat may occur if the governing party does not work it well.
A political analyst in the state, Dr. Ibrahim M. Abba told our correspondent in Damaturu that still in 2019, if care is not taken by the APC, the 2015 general elections result will repeat them-selves in Zone B, he observed.
He said: “There is a strong battle in Zone B on the Senate seat between the current Senator, Senator Muhammad Hassan (Dambu) of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammad Bomai (Basa) of the All Progressives Congress (APC). In fact nobody can predict the winner as of now between the two candidates, because each of them has large support base.”
Alhaji Idi Bukar Agwam, an APC stalwart in the state also said APC in Yobe state has no problem, adding, “our fear is Yobe South Senatorial District Zone B, where the incoming deputy governor comes from.”
He, however, urged party stakeholders in the zone to intensify efforts toward ensuring that this time around they make sure APC captures all the seats in the zone.
According to him, Yobe is the home of APC, because since the return of democracy, the party has been governing the state.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress, APC, Yobe State Chapter has inaugurated a reconciliation committee to reconcile aggrieved members of the party before the elections.
Some of the aspirants in the party, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the party executives in the state did not do justice to them.
