Prof. Ahmad Tijjani Abdullahi, Chairman Governing Council, Kano State Polytechnic, has described late Alhaji Muhammadu Abubakar Rimi, former governor of old Kano State as an icon and champion of political change.

According to him, Rimi never slept over his right.

He said this quality gave him confidence to voice out his feeling as an eloquent voice of the voiceless.

Abdullahi, who is also a former deputy governor of the state and Professor of Mechanical  Engineering at Bayero University, Kano, said late Rimi’s permanent interest is embracing the down trodden or the masses.

He explained that it is this interest that guided his action, noting that he embraced the ideology of Talakawa (common people) throughout his political career and it was the commoners that had benefited from his administration.

Prof. Abdullahi described it as unfortunate that currently politicians in the nation are no longer treating the problem of the masses into account.

He added that political position nowadays has become an enterprise for making easy money as politicians consider their personal interest above and over that of national thus constituting a barricade and a set back to nation’s development.

On his part, Alhaji Zubairu Yahaya Adam, proprietor of Zubair Bn Awwam Integrated Academy has said that late Rimi was a man with courage, wisdom, vision, idealism, high aspiration and deep conviction.

He noted that he was unique among his contemporaries as he was courageous enough to speak out the wishes and aspiration of the masses.

Alhaji Adam explained that late Rimi was an embodiment of true politician who lived a vibrant life for the masses in his mind.

He said these qualities had made him a strong grassroots politician of the time, stressing that his contribution to the development of the nation’s politics would continue to be remembered.

Prof. Sadiq Wali is former Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), who described late Alhaji Muhammadu Abubakar Rimi as a great man who contributed immensely to the development of humanity.

According to him, he knew Rimi since 1977 when he was schooling at the University of Lagos, while Rimi was at the Institute for International Affairs in Lagos.

The former CMD said when the late Alhaji Rimi was the governor of the state, he appointed him as commissioner for health for two years and since then their cordial relationship had continued to wax stronger.

Aminu Yaro Diso is Deputy Head of Agricultural Department of Gwale Local Government Area and said late Rimi was tried, tested and trusted governor, adding that among late Rimi’s legacies was his trustfulness in attitude.

Late Rimi died on one Sunday night as a result of cardiac arrest after running into an armed robbery operation along Darki, Gadar Janna, in Wudil Local Government Area, about 50km North of Kano city.
